By far, the best halibut taco I've ever had. Recently did a cruise to Alaska and while taking the shuttle from Icy Strait, the shuttle driver mentioned Oso Gordito and their halibut tacos. There was 6 of us, so we did two of their 3 taco platters, so that we each got one taco. Three tacos are 20, but for the halibut, it was an extra 7. So 54 for 6 tacos, plus grat. Being from Canada, it's definitely a lot of money to spend per taco, however, it was definitely worth it. Thanks so much for the delicious tacos!
What an unexpected surprise in an out of the way remote location. Possibly the best Halibut taco I have ever had. Texas folks working the tourist trade in Hoonah, Alaska. The tortillas was soft and flavorful. The Halibut was breaded just right to be crispy and enhance the taco without being too much. The Halibut was fresh, meaty and delicious. The slaw was just tart enough to enhance without taking over and the sweet pickled onions were a great touch. But don't miss the mesquite fries which were a star all by themselves. All in all, I wish I had more frequent access to the food truck.
These tacos are legit. The halibut is fried perfectly with some amazing toppings and sauces. The tortillas are surprisingly good too! The brisket tacos that my son inhaled are also awesome. There aren't a lot of options on the island but this is definitely worth the trip!
When in Hoonah, AK what does a Texan do? Order a Halibut Taco from a Texas food truck!! The ordering is done via computer which was a bit confusing and did not allow to ask questions or for recommendations. I wanted my taco without sauce and thought I ordered it that way but it came with sauce on it. It still was tasty but I’m not a mayo fan and think I would have enjoyed it more without.
Super yummy tacos. My husband loved the fries! Wouldn’t expect good Mexican in this tiny town, but it’s great! Don’t miss this place. Really nice service, too.
The best part of this rainy day was eating at Oso Gordito. I wish we were able to take an order of halibut tacos to go. Perfect blend of Alaska seafood and Texas tacos. Absolutely delicious.
Took the bus to Hoonah from Icy Point for these tacos and it was well worth the trip. I had the halibut trio, my husband had the shrimp, and they were both fantastic. Cooked to perfection, flavorful and filling. Perfect place under the tent yo rest and eat up!
Like most, stopped in Hoonah during cruise. The best tip was to stop at this food truck for the best halibut tacos...no, not cheap, but YUM at every bite. Get off the ship and explore and taste the local flavor!
